Guitavio – that sounds like the South, Sun, and Olives, but it ain’t.
In 1987, the Band was founded in northern Germany, that is Westerland respectively Kiel. The name derives from the instruments played by the founding members: Guitar and Violin.
GUITAVIO was first raved about when the Band was awarded the first prize at a musical Competition on the island of Sylt, 1987. Since then, the Band has gone through a lot of changes. Today GUITAVIO are: Coretta von Behr (Vocals), Erk Boetefuer (Guitars, Vocals), Ronald Kowalewski (Bass, Vocals), and Markus Zell (Drums, Percussion). From time to time GUITAVIO gets musical support by Marion Heise (Accordion, Viola, Vocals) and Diedrich von Behr (Percussion).
Meanwhile the Band has delivered seven CDs. They are touring Germany and foreign countries, are performing at Radio- and TV-Gigs, and gained various Awards.
For several years now, GUITAVIO is working together with song lyricist Paul Thomas. Born in England, he lives in Israel since the mid-90’s. During the past years GUITAVIO exclusively set to music a variety of his songlyrics and published them on CD already. These songs are presented as Folk-Pop-Jazz-Rock-Arrangements, played on mostly acoustic instruments: The result of this cooperation is a high class stage performance of a specific, vivacious as well as passionate and always thrilling music.
GUITAVIO’s special interest lies in the style-overlapping cooperation with other musicians and Bands. In 2002, Guitavio gave a concert with Germany’s best known Blues-musician ABI WALLENSTEIN, the motto being “Folk meets Blues”. In 2004 the Band went on Tour with the Danish Folk Band DROWNES & BELLOWS. Also, GUITAVIO was joined by classical musicians more than once when recording CDs and giving concerts.
In November 2004 GUTAVIO had he pleasure to open the only Concert in Germany by the British Folk-Rock-Band FAIRPORT CONVENTION.
The Media do tell: The “Brunsbuetteler Zeitung” wrote about an “excellent prepared Mixture of Style”, and the “Norddeutsche Rundschau” awarded GUITAVIO’s Concerts “prime quality”. This is not only the opinion of the “Rundschau”. The “Kieler Nachrichten” wrote: “Secret strings of dialogue and musical agreements had been tightened between the musicians and were pulling the audience from reality into a wonderful world of dreams. The first Concert of the year could hardly have been better.” And later the “Kieler Nachrichten” focused on GUITAVIO as an “outstanding Folk Ensemble”, that, as the “Bad Bramstedter Anzeiger” put it, “was moving the audience to bursts of applause.” The “Weserkurier” of Bremen characterized GUITAVIO’s music as a “convincingly wilful mixture”.
